My camera and I - August 25, 2005 Point Reyes Lighthouse, Point Reyes National Seashore, CA |
I started doing real photography in 1999 after bought my first real camera, a Canon EOS Elan IIE kit from Fry's Electronics. It's been some time but if I remember it was because I was looking for a decent camera, something more useful than the point-and-shoot I had since college. At the same time I was a little depressed and I was looking for something to do to occupy myself. I really didn't intend on getting into serious photography, in reality I was looking for something I could use to take pictures of friends and good for taking travel pictures. The only reason I got a Canon instead of another brand honestly was I just liked the way the Elan II looked.
It didn't take long before I started getting interested in photography; for a while I mostly just took casual pictures but I started to get interested when friends noticed that I took some pretty good ones. I decided maybe I would try my hand at improving my skills, so I started reading books, digging up information from the web and practicing whenever I could.
Over the years I progressed and gained experienced, spent way too much money on camera equipment and traveled to many places to practice. I really enjoyed the experience because of all the skills you need to master and challenges I faced, and I really enjoyed the creative process and sharing my pictures and experiences with people.
And that's what my website is about--sharing with other people, and it reflects my general motivation in life. The photographs themselves are very nice, a lot of people have told me so and I'm very happy that people like them. But it's about sharing experiences and knowledge, sharing my little viewpoint of the world we live. It's about inspiring people--maybe to pick a camera and go take pictures themselves, but also perhaps to go visit someplace they've never been but saw in a photograph. Or maybe it's a simple as simply to pause, look around at the world that surrounds us and see in a different way.
And so that is why my website came to be.
So Who Are You?
Well what I can tell you is that I am not a professional photographer. Photography for me is a personal endeavor and something I enjoy doing, and while many people have complemented me and urged that I go professional I'm happy staying non-professional. For a living I am a professional software developer and I've been as such for close to a decade. I've worked for a number of large, well-known software companies developing corporate enterprise software. I wrote the software that powers my website during my spare free time. My website is totally free, I don't make any money from it. It does cost money to run so I'm planning on adding ads to help defray the costs involved in keeping my website alive.

The Wedding Photographer - May 29, 2004 Mountain View, CA (Yes the land of the Googlers) |
Sadly I'm not able to dedicate as much time as I used to in the past to photography or my website. Personal and family responsibilities take precedence over these, but I do try my best to keep this site updated and to go take photographs.

If you are interested in leaving me a message, the best place is to visit my guestbook and leave me a message there. I don't give out email addresses anymore because of the ridiculous amounts of spam I get. And I'm sorry I don't make or sell prints or give people digital copies of originals of my photographs.
This website is dedicated to my friends and family, especially my grandfather who we miss very much.
