Old Website News

Come here to find what's going on with this website and to see what new things have been done or added.

July 12, 2004 - Version 3.0 has been deployed. This version is marked by significant compatibility improvements, better nagivational tools and usability. Check out what's new.

July 7, 2004 - Happy Birthday to Patrick Young Photography! This site went live a year ago today--amazing how much has changed since that initial version. Actually a new major release is being developed and will be available shortly. In addition, py-photo.net will now go by vivid-color.net.

July 4, 2004 - I'm stuffed after hitting four parties in two days. A great way to spend the holiday weekend, although I missed out the fireworks which were obscured by fog and cold weather. That's life in San Francisco, you get used to it. I do have pictures from three of the parties, they can be found in the Party Like It's the 4th of July Gallery

June 26, 2004 - I got a chance to try out my new Minolta DiMage A2 the past few days. I went over to Pacifica Pier, ten minutes from my house to try out sunset pictures which you can find in the Most Recent Additions Gallery. I also took some snapshots during a weekend outing to Tomales Bay with Donna and other friends; check those pictures out in the Oysterfest at Tomales Bay gallery. I also started work on my newest project, The Chinatown Experience.

June 24, 2004 - I just received my new Minolta DiMage A2 digicam yesterday and a 2Gb Hitachi Microdrive to go along with it this evening. In image quality and versatility it is no match for my Canon D60. But in size and weight, features and functionality it makes an excellent travel and street photography camera.

June 14, 2004 - I spent a good hour on top of the Marin Headlands this evening to catch sunset light over the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a beautiful sight to behold everytime and I would have enjoyed it much more if it wasn't for the ferocious, unforgiving winds that pummel the headlands. You can see the pictures I got in the Most Recent Additions Gallery.

June 10, 2004 - Janet and John's wedding photos are now online for viewing. They can be accessed here. No post-processing was done, that will applied only to images they select for their wedding album.

May 29, 2004 - The big day has finally arrived and past. Three hundred fifty guests , one set of newlyweds and over a thousand pictures later, I finally can take a break! Janet and her new husband are now off on their wonderful honeymoon and now I'm left to sort out the pictures for prints and the wedding album. The first time I've ever been the primary wedding photographer--what an experience. I just hope people don't get the idea I do this all the time!

May 25, 2004 - A busy week so far, but I've managed to find time to add new pictures to the regular galleries. Also, last weekend I went with some friends on a weekend trip to Yosemite and I took some pictures; they are now available for viewing. Photographs of my friends are here, while landscape shots can be found in the Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada gallery.

May 16, 2004 - It's been really busy lately, but I've managed to sneak in some time to write and work on enhancements. That includes updating the drab navigation bar and the website logo. I've been doing some experimentation with flashes in preparation for Janet's wedding--hopefully that will translate into some nice pictures and a furture article on portrait lighting.

May 9, 2004 - I went with my friend Carrie down to Monterey and Big Sur to work on some photography and take in some of the beautiful scenery. I'm preparing to do my friend Janet's wedding and she was kind enough to model for me so I could practice. Check out our photographs (well, mostly hers). Afterwards we went out and practiced some landscape work. Thanks Carrie!

April 27, 2004 - Finally my camera is back from the shop. Looks like it suffered quite a lot damage--they replaced the shutter, the hot shoe, and the mount. But it's working great; I'm back in business!

April 12, 2004 - My Canon D60 is in the shop. I've been having problems with the lens mount; somehow the connection between the body and the lens is not working. In order to use the D60 I had to shake it and sometimes the connection would be made--but it got to a point where it became unacceptable. Oh well, it'll be done by the end of the month.

March 30, 2004- Version 2 of py-photo.net has gone live! A few final touches are still forthcoming, but I wanted to get this out as soon as I could. Find out more about what's new and what's changed...

March 18, 2004 - My PowerMac G5 is back from the shop a couple of days ago. It took a couple days to re-install everything, recompile PHP and install MySQL, but everything is back to normal now.

March 10, 2004 - Construction of version 2 of my website is now underway. I was hoping to use the new G5, but it's still in the shop so I've jerry-rigged my Powerbook with Apache, MySQL and PHP as the development platform until the G5 is back from the shop.

March 7, 2004 - Wouldn't you know it, just when I had everything set up and ready to go to start working on version 2.0 of the website, my brand new Power Mac G5 fried. Back to the shop for a few weeks for repair, until then I guess I'll have to work off the PowerBook and use the old PC for image work. I'm working on designing dynamic page generation to speed up gallery updating and creation; doing it all by hand is just too tedious and time consuming.

March 6, 2004 - Finally getting around to fixing up my website, getting rid of some annoying bugs. Also got around to fixing up the navigation of photos; I get the sense people prefer using the thumbnail mode of viewing. It's been thee but I guess it's a bit hard to find--so I made it the default method of browsing the photos. Hopefully this will make your viewing more efficient and enjoyable!

Feb 27, 2004 - Just got a new Power Mac G5. I've gotten tired of my PC crashing and my experience with the PowerBook has convinced my that going with Mac is the way to go.

November 25, 2003 - It's continues to be a very busy month for me. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Last week I was attending my friends' Tony and Candy's wedding. You can find a few photographs that I took in the Candy Mae and Tony Wedding Photo Gallery.

November 14, 2003 - Wow it's been a whirlwind month. Quite a busy month, from partying to going on several photo trips--and of course Halloween festivities. In that past month I've gone to several places, including a weekend trip down the California Coast with friends to take photographs and party. I also took the opportunity to revisit the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, just 15 minutes from my house but a wonderful place to practice. Check out all my new photos in the Most Recently Posted gallery, I'm still in the process of putting them up--just so busy these days!

Oct 18, 2003 - Went on a day trip out to Point Reyes National Seashore. I got there annually to test my photographic skills and measure how much I improve year to year. In addition I brought along my new Cokin 173 Blue & Gold Polarizer to play with. To view these photos, you can find them in the Most Recently Posted gallery.
Sept 25, 2003 - Just returned from a three day cruise to Ensenda, Mexico with several friends. I've put up pictures that we took online--you can find them in Ensenda Cruise Sept 2003 Gallery.

Sept 14, 2003 - After a lot of catching up, I finally have managed to put up pictures from my trip to Maui. You can find them here in my Maui Vacation Sept 2003 Gallery. The gallery is really disorganized right now, when I have more free time I'll try to clean things up a bit.

Sept 7, 2003 - Back from my vacation to Maui!

August 17, 2003 - Posted some new images taken using my new lens. Check them out in the Most Recently Posted gallery.

August 7, 2003 - Finally got a new lens, the all new Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8 L. It's been three years since the last time I got a lens, and boy did this one cost a pretty penny!

July 31, 2003 - Added the new Colors of the Sky photo gallery.

July 27, 2003 - Posted several new images from a photo workshop I went on with a friend of mine this afternoon. You can find a few of the better images in the Most Recently Posted gallery.

July 26, 2003 - Added the new Monochromes photo gallery.

July 13, 2003 - Added new article about image cropping. Good read for people interested in improving their composition skills.

Jully 12, 2003 - I've updated several articles and added two new ones. Cleaned things up and made some fixes based on comments made by some of my friends.

July 10, 2003 - I'm now in the process of beta testing the site. I've asked several friends to play with the site and give me their comments. It's been going very well and I've received very positive and useful input. Thanks my friends!

July 7, 2003 - py-photo.net has gone live!

July 6, 2003 - Completed both the Canadian Rockies and the Yosemite photo galleries. These were not that large so I was able to complete them fairly quickly.

July 4, 2003 - Just completed the Pacific Coast Highway photo gallery. Happy 4th of July!

July 3, 2003 - Just completed the San Francisco photo gallery.

June 28, 2003 - Just completed the Southwest photo gallery.

May 23, 2003 - Memorial Day Weekend. Yes it's time to hit the old BBQ!

May 5, 2003 - Putting together my website. I haven't been working on this in a long time but I decided to revamp my website. I decided to put down my camera and start concentrating on putting the content I already had online and working on print techniques. After all, what's the use of all these pictures if nobody can see them?

May 1, 2003 - Back from my trip to the Southwest. A week of travel has netted a bonanza of photographic opportunities. During my trip I visited Arches, Canyonlands and the Grand Canyon. I also visit scenic spots like Dead Horse State Point, the Goosenecks, Valley of the Gods, and of course Monument Valley. Still interested? Then check out my travel log of this trip.
